Dr. Heng on the Dangers of Breast Fillers
AMSC Malaysia 2026 Conference Recap: Dr. Heng on the Dangers of Breast Enhancement with Fillers
AMSC Malaysia 2026 brought together local and international experts in aesthetic medicine, dermatology and plastic surgery for two days of learning, discussion and knowledge sharing at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on 13–14 August 2026. The fifth edition of the conference featured more than 160 speakers and experts across 47 symposium sessions, with a strong focus on patient safety, complication management and responsible aesthetic practice.
Dr. K.S. Heng of Nicanor Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery spoke on:
“Is There a Safe Filler for Breast Enhancement in 2026? A Critical Review of Evidence, Risks, and Reality.”
Why Breast Fillers Are a Growing Concern
Breast filler injections may sound attractive because they are often presented as a “non-surgical” way to increase breast volume.
There is no implant, no large incision and potentially less initial downtime.
The breast is made up of breast tissue, fat, ducts, blood vessels and lymphatic structures. Once a large amount of filler is injected into this tissue, the material may not always remain neatly in the original area.Is There an Approved Injectable Filler for Breast Enlargement?
One of the key points patients should understand is that an injectable product being described as a “body filler” does not mean it is approved for use in the breast.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration specifically recommends against using dermal fillers or injectable fillers to increase breast size. Injectable fillers for breast augmentation are not FDA-approved.
Approval is specific to the product, the body area and the intended use.
What Can Happen When Breast Filler Causes Complications?
Complications may appear shortly after injection or, in some cases, months or years later.
Problems reported with injectable fillers in the breast include:
- Infection and abscess formation
- Persistent pain or swelling
- Hard lumps and nodules
- Breast asymmetry or changes in shape
- Skin and tissue damage
When Removing Breast Filler Is Not Simple
Another misconception is that filler can always simply be “dissolved” or removed if the patient changes her mind.
Depending on the product used and how it has spread through the breast, removal can become difficult. The FDA notes that some filler materials can be difficult or even impossible to completely remove, particularly permanent fillers or materials that cannot be easily dissolved.
When infection, migration or tissue damage has already occurred, treatment may require more than a simple injection.
Some patients may require repeated treatment or surgery to remove affected material and damaged tissue. In severe cases, reconstruction may also become part of the treatment process.
This was another important part of the discussion at AMSC Malaysia 2026, where Dr. Heng also shared his experience in the management of breast filler complications.
Before undergoing breast enhancement — whether surgical or non-surgical — patients should understand the exact treatment being proposed, the evidence behind it, the possible complications and the long-term implications for their breast health.
Because when it comes to your body, the safest decision begins with the right information.
